What is a side awning?

Side awnings can be fitted to pretty much any vehicle, with roof bars or roof rack. They come is various sizes to suit your car and provide a useful covered area next to your car that you can use to shelter from the rain or sun. This also means you can access your car while they are erected.

Awnings attach to your vehicle’s roof and are opened by hand, pull out or roll out is the most common. Canvas is attached to a strong aluminium metal frame which is supported by legs and secured by pegged guide ropes.

What size awning to buy?

Below are our vehicle side awning size suggestions. These suggestions should give you an idea of what size awning to use on your car. Vehicle requirements vary and an awning can be mounted at any 2 points along its length due to the continuous twin channels on the back face. So just measure how long your vehicle is and the area you want to cover. However, make sure not to have too much overhang from your vehicle, as this can be a hazard to other road users while driving.

Fabric/Canvas

Our awnings are designed to be lightweight but durable. All canvas, including walls, windbreaks and extensions are all made from strong flexible 420D rip-stop Oxford polyester. This material is waterproof, mould resistant and provides 100% UV protection. Consequently, this hard-wearing material will be essential on your expedition trip or camping getaway.

Materials

All materials used in our vehicle awnings have the same attention to detail. Heavy-duty thick canvas outer bag for storing will protect your awning while you’re traveling and will stop water ingress or dirt from the road. The frames of the awnings are tough lightweight anodised aluminium poles, designed to be strong but flexible in wind.

We use reflective guide ropes for securing your awning in windy weather, plus 2 heavy-duty aluminium pegs, no cheap flimsy pegs here! We also use premium quality zippers for extra durability on the trail.
